You may have noticed that Denby Dale Tennis Club have recently been offering free tennis coaching sessions for all age ranges (check out the local events calendar here – https://www.hd8network.co.uk/events/free-tennis-open-day/) so we thought it appropriate to invite them to tell you more about the club.
Denby Dale Tennis Club can be found nestled away on Bank Lane in the heart of Denby Dale village, with the viaduct providing an awesome backdrop.
There are two floodlit artificial clay courts and a clubhouse set within beautifully kept grounds. The HD8 Network popped down the other day and were delighted at how beautiful and peaceful the area was.
The Club has members of all ages and abilities and new members are always welcomed.
Both social and competitive tennis is offered, along with coaching for all ages and abilities.
Currently the tennis club has ladies’, men’s and mixed teams competing in the Huddersfield and Wakefield Leagues, and have previously also entered junior teams – with sufficient interest they aim to do so again!
The Coaching is provided by ‘We Do Tennis’ with sessions taking place on Thursday afternoon/evenings for 6-year-olds to adults. Information and booking can be found at Denby Dale (wedotennis.co.uk)
It is believed that there has been a tennis club present on the site since the 1940s and it was the first club in the Huddersfield league to install floodlights!
The courts were previously a shale surface but were renovated in 2013 as part of the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics. The artificial clay surface allows for year-round play by members and is much more kind on the joints than the likes of tarmac.
The efforts of members are vital to the Club as it is run and maintained solely on a voluntary basis. This includes day-to-day operation of the Club, maintenance of the courts, grounds and clubhouse and organisation of events.
