I want to work, rest and play in the HD8 area and surrounding areas of Huddersfield, and while I am trying to do that, I feel it is only right that I also help others to do so.
It was by chance that I fell in love with the area; I was temping for Wesco in Clayton West.
The drive down from Bretton roundabout made my heart sing. Every day I drove down, I loved it more and pretty much every evening I said to my husband “I have to live there” …. And now I do!
Not only is it where I want to live, but it is also where I want to work and spend my free time (play).
The HD8 Network is a side hustle for me, however its morphed into an all time consuming obsession … My main business is Sayers Solutions, whereby I work with small businesses (and non profit organisation if they have the budget) on their marketing and strategy.
I also volunteer for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) who are a member led organisation, that lobby government (and anyone else that will listen) about the self employed and small businesses, making sure they are considered when decisions are made. I have been the elected Area Lead for the past six years and previously was the Kirklees Branch secretary before the organisation structure was updated.
I am also a trustee and founding member of the Friends of CHaT Parks, who oversee the parks in the city centre of Wakefield. Most people know it as Thornes Park, however there are actually three parks in one, which include Clarence and Holmfield parks. In 2024 we held our 15th AGM.
In recent years I was part of local people in Clayton West who tried to reclaiming an abandoned chapel, with the aim of bringing back to the community, but unfortunately we lost out to a local property developer.
I have a daughter that attends the local school, swims at the local baths, attends the youth club and local dance classes and regularly attends meetings with me and helps me deliver leaflets.
Since lockdown my husband now works from home and is my office buddy. He is a manufacturing standards engineer working, with plants across the world automating their CADcam.
Together we have a Cockerpoo and recently became member of the Nortonthorpe Sports Club’s Allotments. We love living in this beautiful area – our daughter will always dismiss other beautiful views, claiming its got nothing on the view from her bedroom window – and enjoy taking part in the local scarecrow trail and attending local bonfires and other events.
