Lower Cumberworth is the smaller of the two Cumberworths. It has a village green next to which is The Foresters pub, a very popular eating and drinking venue, dating back to at least 1847. On the green is one of the old red BT phone boxes which now houses a defibrillator, installed and maintained by Cumberworth Community Association.
Cumberworth United Cricket Club is based in Lower Cumberworth and is very active with adults and juniors, with matches throughout the season.
Although Lower Cumberworth is very close to nearby villages, it is surrounded by farmland and has a great network of footpaths to access the countryside, including The Kirklees Way.
The village is home to Lower Cumberworth Methodist Church and Community Rooms, which are used by various community groups and also has a monthly coffee morning on the first Saturday of every month.
Historically the village had a Co-operative store, which is now residential dwellings. More recently, until about the turn of the century, there was a village store, butcher’s and Post Office at Low Fold.
