Shepley resident David Chew completed his personal challenge of running 10 ultramarathons in 10 days, whilst still doing the day job.
The challenge culminated on Saturday 20th July at Northonthorpe Sports Clubs annual fun and fund raising day.
Luke Dawson from Nortonthorpe Sports Club said “Our family fun day was such an awesome success – thanks to our amazing committee and volunteers. Without them these things would not be possible!”
Numerous families from around the area, were entertained by Scissett FC match of legends, numerous sporting activities provided and organised by John Caven from GWL United and of course the arrival of David and the completion of his mammoth task.
On top of that there were bottle raffles and tombola’s and the opportunity to meet Alison from the Bridge Community Hub and Rachel from Parents Sanctuary. There were lots of food and drinks options were available, with the added bonus of BaoBros23 serving their delightful Bao Buns from their Citroën Pop up Kitchen!
David ran different routes covering 27.5 miles every day after work for the last 10 days taking in some of our well-known local landmarks such as Emley Moor Mast, Castle Hill, Cannon Hall Farm, Bretton Sculpture Park, John Smith’s Stadium, Holmfirth Picturedrome and Holme Moss amongst others.
When asked why he wanted to do this, David said, “I have always liked to set myself a challenge. This time I am taking a step further than anything I have done before and at the same time hoping to raise some money for Cancer Research UK, the world‘s leading cancer charity.”
At the last count, David has raised £2559!
