Tree-planting in Kirklees this Winter – get active outside!!
We are on the lookout for volunteers to help with our tree planting events and there are several opportunities in Kirkburton in February and March. These planting sessions form part of the council’s wider woodland creation programme, under the White Rose Forest, which aims to contribute to long-term carbon storage, reverse biodiversity decline and provide high quality woodlands for our communities. These sessions will be led by Kindlewoods CIC – Here’s what people had to say about the sessions before Christmas:
- ‘Although the day was a little cold and damp, I soon got warmed up when the work started. My first time planting trees and I really enjoyed it. Met some lovely people, felt I was doing something worthwhile and left feeling energised and invigorated. Very rewarding’.
- ‘I love planting trees. There was a good atmosphere and co-operation’.
- ‘It was a great session with lots of help from the Kindlewoods about how to plant trees with key things to look out for. It was a really great day’.

Digital Inclusion and Wellbeing sessions are running at Holmfirth, Honley and Meltham Libraries, covering digital skills, online safety and access to devices.
Kirklees Benefits Advice will be at Holmfirth Tech,
140 Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth, HD9 3AR 10.30 – 12.30 pm – drop-in free advice on 18th January, 1st February, 15th February, 7th March and 21st March 2024.
Holmfirth Tech is open as a warm space on weekdays
10 – 2 pm until 22nd March 2024 – free hot food, drinks, sign-posting support, digital inclusion and creative activities.

Are you running a voluntary or community group with a turnover of over £5000 a year? Then now maybe the time to start looking into registering your group with the Charities Commission.
There are various ways to register, and a range of Organisational structures to suit your group, registering your group also has added advantages of when it comes to looking for funding and giving protection to the Trustees and those involved with running the group.
