Village pub gets shortlisted as Yorkshire’s favourite pub

The Dunkirk in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire is one of eighteen finalists in Welcome to Yorkshire’s search for the best pub in the county.

The first round saw thousands of votes and a whooping 800 pubs nominated but The Dunkirk beat off the competition to emerge on the shortlist.

It’s come a long way in 18 months after being at risk of potentially being turned into a housing development, to now representing all that’s great about a Yorkshire country pub.

Although the building dates back to the dooms day book, its current form has only been open since November 2016, following a massive restoration project.

It was brought by four Yorkshiremen who didn’t want to see this community asset go, but rather make it thrive and become the centre of village life.

James Hampshire is thrilled to make it onto the shortlist; ‘It’s a testament to how far we’ve come in the last 18 months and the hard work of our whole team. The great thing about this competition is the votes come from our customers and we want to thank them for their support. We’re looking forward to finding out the final result in July.’

With an extensive real ale selection from micro-breweries around the County, a Yorkshire Gin List, locally sourced produce on the food menu, it really is a pub that celebrates its Yorkshire location.

Their customers certainly think so and have voted in their droves to make sure The Dunkirk has the best possible chance of being named Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub.

The next stage of voting closes on 25th June and the winner will be announced at the Great Yorkshire Show on 10th July.
