The first season for the Clayton West branch of Incredible Edible has now come to an end.
Clayton West Incredible Edible is a fledgling community group who came together to plant, harvest and share fruit and vegetables grown in Cliffe Woods in Clayton West, and there is a chance that their activities will extend to other public areas of the village in the future.
Several raised boxes and beds have been created by the group amongst the gardens in Cliffe Woods and over the past few months they have grown potatoes, french runner beans, onions, carrots, tomatoes, kale and garlic and there is space for them to diversify and expand the planting areas for next year.
The community group have also recently won a bid to buy and plant a “Foraging walk”, which will be an avenue of diverse variety espalier fruit trees and soft fruit bushes.
One of the hopes for the project is to be considered as a community wide allotment, without the waiting list!
Clayton West Incredible Edible are now appealing for and wish to encourage green fingered, fresh air loving people to join in and enjoy the social side and share their skills, and then take a share of the harvest.
